Cutting pumpkins is too difficult for children, but they can easily paint faces onto a pumpkin with acrylic paint.
Find a pumpkin about the size of a human head.
Get your child to draw several different faces of that size on paper. Choose one with simple shapes and redraw it with a black permanent pen onto the pumpkin.
Using acrylic paint, paint cream for the whites of the eyes and the teeth. Let it dry. You can add the black eye balls with the pen when the paint is dry.
You wish to make red lips and/or a red nose
Acrylic paint is permanent – so don’t let it dry if it gets on your clothes!
These pumpkins will last until Christmas!
It's important to get the child to do the paper drawing first in order to get the size and placement of eyes and nose right to fit the pumpkin.
Let the child choose his own pumpkin.
