Activity 2: Gelatin

Juice Jellies

  • 3 Tablespoons unflavoured gelatine in 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup fruit juice (Kiwi juice and fresh pineapple juice will not set)

Let the gelatin soften in the cold water for a few minutes. Then place the cup in the microwave for 10 seconds. Stir until dissolved. Add the sugar. Stir until dissolved. Add the fruit juice. Stir and pour into individual bowls or moulds.

Flavoured jellies

You can buy packets of artificial flavoured and coloured jellies at the supermarket .

Follow the directions for quantities on the package. Children love the moulds if you have any.

When unmoulded, chant: "Jelly on a plate, jelly on a plate, wibble-wobble, wibble- wobble, jelly on a plate."

Variations: Jelly on my chair, jelly on my hair. Jelly on my nose, jelly on my toes.

Talk about how the water changed shape.
