Milk

Milk is an essential food for babies and children. Milk makes our bones and teeth strong and provides  protein for our growth.

The milk we get from the supermarket mostly comes from cows, though it is possible in some places to buy milk that comes from goats, sheep and sometimes even buffalos.

Ask the children "What other animals make milk?" (cats, dogs, horses, ponies etc. All mammals make milk for their babies- but humans don't use milk from most  other animals.

In the days before refrigeration, people made cows' milk into cheese to keep it from rotting. Butter and yogurt are also made from milk as is ice-cream.

The milk recipes here are designed for young children to use mostly by themselves for their own enjoyment and health.

Most recipes are quickly made but some require hours of chilling...check the time involved before starting the recipes. Do you need to start after breakfast to have it ready for dessert after dinner? Children are naturally impatient, so you need to tell them "You can make icy-poles now, but they won't be ready until after dinner- or tomorrow, or whatever..."
